ROLLING HILLS is the name of this sweet design. š
i'm not sure yet how i want to stitch the purple lines that outline the hills, and i'm not sure whether i want to fill in the little houses or not... but i do know that these green lines are perfect for a nice, simpleĀ running stitch, so i'm starting here.
(i used 2 strands of floss - that's my usual go-to thickness):

since the sides of these hills are going to introduce some different colors, textures, and stitches to this pattern, i've decided to use a simple back stitch [2 strands] to outline the tops of the hills.
alternate ideas would be: split stitch, stem stitch, or chain... any of these would look nice, and would have a bit more thickness and texture than the back stitch.
... and more purple! š i've just filled in the moon [satin/2] and the hill on the left [fern/2] and the lower hill [chain/2] with some basic stitches.
i may go back to the hill that's covered in fern stitches and fill it in a little more... we'll see how balanced it looks when all the lines are covered.

single strand and straight stitches for these tiny little houses:

and for the red flower petals, i'm filling them using some satin stitch [2 strands] for smooth, bold color.Ā i usually start in the center of each petal and work my way out, which keeps the stitches fairly even and symmetrical. (it's okay if they look a little wonky)

i love the wavy effect of this blue dotted hillside. my dots are a little wonky, but i don't mind.Ā i'm stitching mine with very small satin stitches, using 2 strands of floss.

while i've got 2 strands of the blue floss in my needles, i'm going to use star stitch for the stars, and satin for the trees. for each little limb/loop/branch part of the tree, there are 2-3 stitches. the trunk is just two straight stitches:

next, i made some colonial knots [2 strands] using the green floss - about 3-5 knots per flower - in the centers of the red flowers.
i'm also starting the border, stitching a whipped back stitch [2 strands] to make the vine nice and smooth:

lastly, i am putting the finishing touches on... i added these little colonial knots to the purple fern stitches, to turn them into flowers. i brought back the light green floss from the hills, and i think it ties everything together really nicely.

all done! i'll have this PDF pattern available on june 1, and the kits + prepprints are coming june 15th.
