stitch club :: 8/2025 :: tomatoes

say hello to our august embroidery pattern: tomatoes!
bright, fun, and bursting with summer vibes, this design is fresh-picked for you.

my needles are threaded and ready to go...

and to start, i'm using 2 strands of the green floss, and working on the stems and little green tops. whipped back stitch for the stems, satin for the tops.

and now that those are done, i'm using the darker blue to outline the ribbon border.

a simple back stitch [2 strands] to start...

and when the outline is all stitched, i'll begin filling the ribbon with some brick stitch [2 strands]. going back and forth between the dark and light blues, and switching it up along the ribbon's length.

isn't that pretty?

i also wanted to show you what i'm planning to do with the red floss for the tomatoes:

this is just an outline copy of the design, and you can see that i've added some lines in red ink. just some gently curved lines to give the tomatoes a bit more shape, and a hint of texture. so i think i'll stitch those, and outline the tomatoes using back stitch.

🍅🍅

and here are the tomatoes, stitching in progress. i'm using 2 strands for the outer edges, and 1 single strand for the curved lines that i added.

and after that, it's all done! i can't wait to hang this in my kitchen 🍅
