how-to: fly stitch

fly stitch is an easy stitch that is used to make greenery, vines, flower petals, scallops, and more. it can be worked as a single stitch or in a row, and can be done vertically or horizontally.

the finished shape of the fly stitch looks like a Y or V or U.

as you stitch, you’ll be making loops of floss and anchoring them in place with a straight stitch (similar to lazy daisy and chain stitch).

you can vary the length and angle of your anchor stitch, and you can also vary the width and placement of your loop.
