stitch club :: 5/2026 :: moonvine

'moonvine' is a simple floral design inspired by quiet spring evenings and slow stitching.
winding vines and scattered blooms come together in a sweet, calming pattern that’s easy to fall into, one stitch at a time.

can't wait to see it come to life 💙

i'm starting with the vines. 2 strands and back stitch, satin for the leaves. (i'm angling my satin stitches inward near the base of each leaf)

next, i've been working on these purple flowers (i know, they look like eyeballs, and i love them).

for the outer petals, i'm using straight stitch, 4 strands (i have my needle threaded with 2 strands, so i'm making one straight stitch and then another one right on top.)

for the fill, i'm using brick stitch, 2 strands, and i'm making about 4 rows on each flower.

and the dark blue centers are filled with satin stitch, 2 strands...

i am working on the pink flowers next, and they are really making this design pop!

when filling an irregular shaped area with satin stitch (2 strands here), i always like to start by making some guideline stitches first, and then filling in each section. the guidelines will help keep the stitches aligned and oriented properly.

next i'm making lots of colonial knots, with the light silver floss.

for the centers of the pink flowers, i'm using 2 strands, and just filling in the center with a cluster of knots.

for the trios of dots outside the flowers, i'm still using 2 strands, but i'm wrapping the needle 4 times to make the knot bulkier. can you see the difference here?

lastly, one final detail - i've added a small straight stitch (1 strand) in the center of each leaf. i'm using the dark blue floss here.

and, i think this one is done!

💙 i'll be updating this post as i make more stitching progress... stay tuned! 💙

  • This is so pretty! I’m looking forward to getting the kit when it comes out. The color combo (bright pink and yellow ochre) is one of my favorites
