backing fabric

have you noticed that i use two layers of fabric when i'm stitching?

i have gotten a lot of questions about that over the years, so i thought i'd explain it again here, in case you are wondering too.

✂ i like to back my projects with a second piece of fabric (usually a muslin or other thin cotton) for a couple of reasons:
✂ first, so that the thread doesn't show through when using light colored fabrics.
✂ but mostly because that extra layer provides extra stability while you are stitching. it supports your work a little more and keeps things even and strong.
✂ it's totally optional, of course, but it's become standard for me.

✂✂✂ happy stitching!!
