stitch club :: 7/2026 :: button garden

say hello to 'button garden'πΏπ our july stitch club pattern features a classic tomato pincushion surrounded by vintage buttons, leafy vines, and twinkling stars. inspired by well-loved sewing baskets and the simple joy of making something by hand.
π
i'm beginning my stitching with the pincushion, using [running stitch/2] for the green dotted lines, and then [back/2] for the 6-pointed 'tomato top' star shape.Β
i used [whipped back/2] for the green string, and i'm also using [whipped back/2] to outline the red tomato.

for the blue vines, i'll use [back/2] for the stems, and [satin/2] for the leaves:

to stitch the buttons, i'm stitching the outlines with [back/2] and the centers with [colonial knots/2]. then for the rest of the lines, i'll switch to single strand [back/1] and [straight/1].

and moving on to the stars...Β
with the light green floss, stitch the larger stars using [star/2], and while your needle is still threaded, use the same floss to fill the pin heads with [satin/2]. (the pins are [back/2])

and then for the tiny red stars, i'm using a single strand and making little cross stitches.
π i'll be updating this post as i make more stitching progress... stay tuned! π
