new month, new year, new pattern. say hello to 'ursa major' our january 2025 stitch club pattern!

you know i love my celestial designs and black bears too, of course. (does anyone recognize this sweet bear face from maybe 15 years ago? if you do, you've been with me for a very long time, and i love you for it! 💙)

now i have started stitching, using the black floss for the bear, 2 strands:

the fur is all done with simple, easy straight stitches, and the outlines are all split stitch. the nose is satin, mouth is back stitch, and the eyes are colonial knots.

next, i'm working on the constellation stars and the dots, using star stitch and colonial knots [ 2 strands ].

if you look closely, you'll see that i'm not stitching the little 'x' stars yet - for those i'll use a different stitch and strands, to give the starry sky some depth and keep things interesting.
