stitch club :: 3/2022 :: folk flower
say hello to our new pattern this month, folk flower.🖤
i like to combine symmetry with wonky hand-drawn lines, so the result is something perfectly imperfect, simple, striking.
i'm beginning with the simplest of stitches, back stitch, using 2 strands and short stitches so the lines of the flower petals will be really well-defined.
and after stitching all the blue petals, i'm using the black floss to stitch a single straight stitch (2 strands) over the blue stitches.
next i'm moving on to the black flowers, leaves, and stems. still using 2 strands.
the stems are back stitched and the flowers + leaves are all satin BUT i want the flowers to look a little different from the leaves, so:
â–ª for the flower petals, the satin stitches are oriented widthwise, from side to side across each petal.
â–ª for the leaves, the satin stitches are made lengthwise, from the tip to the base of each leaf.
just a little variation to keep things interesting!Â
next up:Â all the little pink cross stitches and straight stitches (2 strands).
super simple, super sweet.
and last but not least, the final elements of this design, colonial knots (2 strands). i really like this shade of orange, and i love how it pops against the solid black!
